The Pillcam (capsule endosope) is designed to investigate the possibility of abnormalities of the small intestine. It is used when standard gastroscopy and colonoscopy haven’t revealed an explanation for anaemia or gastrointestinal bleeding.
The patient swallows the Pillcam at the Miranda office and an over the shoulder recorder is placed. The Pillcam transmits pictures to the recorder for the next 12hours. The patient leaves the office and can do most daily activities. The recorder is returned to the office the next day for download and review. The Pillcam doesn’t need to be retrieved/returned.
